Top 3 Garmin GPS Best Sellers : Customer Reviews

Garmin 360 gps

garmin 360 gps

-Bluetooth: I debated whether or not to get this unit or one of the lower ones with no bluetooth, but for the price difference (from my research it was only around a $40 difference), I decided to go with the bluetooth. I had heard all kinds of things about pairing problems and address books not being sent, but it has worked flawlessly with my Blackberry (Pearl 8130). The unit's speaker is clear and loud enough for talking on it as your hands free unit, and it's so nice to be able to see who's calling without digging around in your pocket when your phone rings. Definitely worth it.

-Navigation: I don't have a lot of experience with other GPS units so I can't compare, but this gets me where I need to go pretty darn well. There seems to be an affinity with this (and all GPS/mapquest/navigation aids) with "county routes", I don't know about anyone else but in the tri-state area, CR's are incredibly easy to get lost on, and generally most people know county routes by other names (i.e. call it "Ringwood Ave", don't call it CR-511 I have no idea what that is). But this is ok because the screen is so clear on where you have to turn, and the text-to-speech does a wonderful job of making sure you know which way you're going to be turning. There was an area in North Jersey that is an absolute cluster [expletive deleted] of construction cones and roads diverted onto off ramps and god knows what else, and this did a flawless job of getting me through it painlessly. This unit also does a fantastically quick job of getting you on the right path again if you miss a turn. Obviously the most important factor in a GPS unit, and this does an A+ job.

Ease of use/utility: Plug it in, turn it on, type in an address and press go. Doesn't get easier than that! I also love the small size, fits right into my pocket. I can use it to find my way around, find restaurants or movie theaters locally, and then dial them right from the Garmin and make reservations or get show times! I love this feature. Navigation is the most important factor, but this little gem does that great, and more.

Cons
Finding a satellite signal: Luckily, this hasn't been a problem when I really was relying on it to find where I was going, but a lot of times when I have it on driving around an area I know, when it's first starting up, it takes a long time to find a signal, even on perfectly sunny days. It's to the point where I'm driving for ten minutes and it says "trouble finding signal" and then asks me what day it is and whether or not I'm indoors or have moved 1,000 miles away since my last use. The times this doesn't happen, it finds a signal almost instantaneously, and sometimes it's not quite ten minutes, but this happens more often than I had expected given all the reviews I read about how quickly it finds a signal.

Windshield mount: After having it about a month, this has stopped working for the most part. The mount will stick, and then fall off after a little while. This is fairly annoying since it's the only mount I really feel like using (the suction one costs extra and is kind of unsightly, and the dashboard mount it comes with is more permanent).

Mixed
Music player/speaker: The music player is pretty cool, I have an SD disk in there with about a half a gig worth of music. The problem is, out of the box, this is impossible to use as a music player. Unlike the bluetooth phone which only is hard to hear if you're going 70 with the windows open, this sound quality is so poor with the internal speaker you won't be using it instead of your ipod or your cd player any time soon. With that said, a lot of new cars have AUX inputs in their cars, so all you need is a 3.5mm wire and you plug it right into the headphone jack, and then you've music through your car's stereo system. Not only that, you also would then get your GPS and phone through your stereo system. Not bad. If you don't have an AUX in, but you have a custom stereo, you can just get some standard Audio cables, plug 'em into the back of your stereo and accomplish the same thing. It's also neat that if you're playing music and using it to navigate, it will pause the music to issue voice directions, then resume where you left off in the song. It also does a nice job of not completely screwing you up if you don't know where you're going and you get a phone call on it. Click Answer or Ignore and it goes right back to the map. Nice. BUT, if you don't have an easy way of getting this hooked through your car's stereo system, the music player is kind of useless.

Overall
Really, this is a great little unit. It does it's main function extremely well, and even though the speaker isn't the greatest, there are ways around that and there is real integration here with music, navigation and phone in one. If it weren't for some problems with sometimes getting a signal, and if the windshield mount wasn't largely dysfunctional, this would be an easy 5 star product. But even with those negative, this is an easy recommendation, it's more than worth the money now that the price has come down so much.

Garmin 350 gps

garmin 350 gps

This is the most "must have" gadget since the Ipod. It's amazing you can get this level of technology for $200. I tested the Garmin 350 head to head, to a more expensive Sony unit on a 6 hour trip from Chicago to Detroit. The Garmin was easier to use, picked the routes I had picked, and had less glitches.
This was my second GPS unit. The previous is a hand held Garmin Vista, a whole different animal more at home hiking in the mountains than on the road.

Pros
Ease of use-I literally did not need the user manual. I took it out of the box and started programing in my "favorite" places. The menus are self explainitory, make sense, and are easy to navigate.
Get to where you want and MUCH more- The extra features aside from trip planning make it worth the $200. Where ever you are, find the nearest gas stations, pet store, pharmacy, Subway.....or whatever. You'll know how far, which direction, and phone number with only a couple touches of the screen. This is very handy when you're in a town away from home. You can also do this while it is navigating. The calculator, and MP3 player also come in handy (although playing music with the built in speaker is useless).
Reliable- I have never lost signal because of weather, it works under bridges (unlike some older units I've used), just grab it and you'll get to where you need.

Cons
The navigation is not perfect- New roads do not come up on the map (even with the '08 model). Sometimes it picks routes that you think.....why?? This may have happened a couple times in the month or so of heavy use (navigating a new sales territory).
Some mount headaches- The way the general mounting design works makes it natural to push the power button when taking it off, this isn't a big deal but it could be improved. I also tried using the suction cup mount on one of my motorcycles and the ball mount wasn't strong enough to handle the bumps on the road with out "sagging" and needing of readjustment.

Garmin 760 gps

garmin 760 gps

I would recommend Garmin to anyone. I have done a lot of research before I came a rational decision to purchase Garmin Nuvi 760. This is my second GPS from Garmin. There is no doubt that Garmin makes one of the finest products out there. I wouldnt say they are 100% perfect. But they are no doubt still better then most of the other rivals in the market.

Pros
Garmin Nuvi 760 is stylish. More options then other units.
The blue tooth is good if you are using it in a sedan.
Nice and small fits right into my pocket.
The maps are pretty accurate.

Cons
In smaller towns the new construction isnt upto date.
speaker should have been made in the front of the GPS and not back.
I was driving from Columbus OH into Chicago which is on Central Time - The
GPS did not simulate the central time.

One thing I have noticed about Garmin which really is a minus point - Garmin GPS's shows Fastest and Shortest option. I checked with my other buddys who own other brand GPS's which give the option Highway or through internal roads.

Bottom line - Overall I love Garmin. Its reliable and every Garmin has certain features. For the folks thinking of purchasing one look up the model of Garmin which suits your needs.

Speaker Dock for iPod

If you are the one who is looking for new Speaker Dock for your iPod, it’s not easy to choose which one should you buy. I would like to offer you some new products from big brand in dock market.

Bellow informations are comments from customer who bought speaker for iPod. I think, it might help you.

Altec Dock
Altec Dock

The Altec Lansing iM600 is a terrific value for the price at which Amazon is selling it. (I don't work for Amazon--but I am a professional musician and picky about sound reproduction.) Compared to the higher-priced iPod dock players--Bose, etc.--most of which don't have an FM tuner, it comes out on top as best value for money. The sound is astonishingly good from so small a unit, with impressive bass, fat middle range and clean, non-tinny highs. FM reception is very good, and Altec's SFX stereo-effect enhancer really does expand the soundstage. I might wish the remote worked from further away, but that's quibbling. For a good sound away from your regular stereo, this unit is tops.

iHome Dock
iHome Dock

I bought my iH8 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond at a heavily discounted price because it was missing the AM antenna. I called iHome Customer Service, told them the story, and within hours they shipped an antenna to my house free of charge. I wish other companies had this high degree of efficiency in dealing with customers. The serice man in charge was Pat Czudyk.
The product itself works fine. Naturally, the speakers are not designed
to compete with Bose. Using the line in function, you can play your CD players or other stereo equipment with the unit. Just remove the iPod when you operate the line in function.
I was so impressed by iHome's customer service that I have decided an iH9 for my wife. This product is a lot more than a glorified alarm clock. I am very pleased with it.

Logitech
Logitech Dock

These speakers exceeded our expectations. We use them for barbeque's and going on vacation. They might not be quite enough for a large party, but if you just need background music in a few rooms, these are great. The sound is really impressive, and you don't have to worry about that muffled sound when you turn them up. The remote is handy, but don't expect to be able to use it from across a large room. The case that came with the speakers is perfect for traveling, and just for storing the speakers when not in use. Overall, we are very happy and will definitely get some good use out of these.

JBL Dock
JBL Dock

Though looking like it belongs in the "iSpeakers" department, make no mistake, this is an excellent product, well worth the money. There is no comparison to cheap (and sometimes not so cheap) docks and speakers, JBL's creation can play your tunes.

There's bass, the highs are clear, mid frequencies are there too. Listening to classical music I found instrument separation to be amazing for such small device.

Though it does not have an EQ control on the speakers, I found that "Classical" setting on my iPod sounds better than the others for any genre. This may have something to do with the internal EQ curve JBL implemented... Of course, this is very subjective and out of all presets you will most likely find the one you like best.

The "Micro" will fit on any messy desk/shelf, but I have a feeling it will perform better in an open space because of it's design.

The remote works exceptionally well, although don't expect lightning fast navigation, takes a little getting used to.

There is video-out, audio-in, and it can function as a USB dock (cable not included)

On the downside, due to it's size and shape there is very little stereo separation, unless you sit right in front of it. It would be awesome to have some kind of "ambient" or "virtual surround" effect available but I found it still performed quite well in a medium-size room.

I'm sure the more expensive (+$100) "High Performance" version will sound better, but the "Micro" provides an excellent price/performance ratio.

I found JBL Radial Micro at my local BJs club for $129.99 which made the purchase even sweeter, considering other stuff you get for around $100.

Bose Dock

Bose dock

I'd been contemplating buying this unit for quite some time....after much deliberation, and looking over all of the reviews, I decided to take a leap of faith....and I am certainly glad that I did. I wanted to be able to listen to my iPod while in my home....and I stumbled upon this unit on Amazon.
Of course, there is no denying the reputation of high quality that Bose has. This unit did not disappoint; I was thrilled at the sound quality that emitted from something of this size. The relatively small footprint lends itself to portability....and also allows it to fit in virtually anywhere. There is virtually no assemble required (just attaching the size appropriate dock for your individual iPod), and the remote comes ready to go,

What more can I say? If you're thinking about it....don't waste any more time. This piece of stereo equipment is definitely worth the expense.

Apple iPod nano 8 GB Blue (3rd Generation)

apple ipod nano

As a replacement for an older iPod with a standard hard drive, the Nano is perfect. I use it mostly for holding background music for work and books on tape borrowed from the library. It's perfect for that. The sounds is terrific and I can easily feed sound to my automobile's cassette adaptor for in-car playing. The controls are intuitive, the screen color is great and the display of album covers is fun. No drawbacks to the device itself; it has played flawlessly (except for some skips on one audio book CD, which seemed related to the CD and not the iPod (knock on wood!). The device itself is light and very thin and easily fits my shirt pocket. Gotta fight the temptation to set it down and lose it! The flash drive, with no moving parts, will (we hope) make the device long-lived and durable. At less than $150, the price was right as well. If I had a few more bucks, I would have sprung for the 8GB model, but the 4GB model still holds plenty of albums and several audio books as well. With luck, it will last longer than my previous iPod, which had warranteeable battery problems, then died of unnatural causes, giving the Apple folks (damn them!) an excuse not to replace it.

My only complaint is about the built-in Klondike solitaire game. First, it's very addictive, which (granted) is my problem. But it also comes with exactly one soundtrack of strip club music, at least as the movies depict such music. But worst of all, the game seems to have the devilish habit of presenting very badly shuffled cards. You can't convince me that a deal of three jacks and three sixes is random. Hands like this are impossible to beat, and the scoring system is a bit rudimentary, only counting cards placed on the aces, not those flip up on the columns. And color me paranoid, but the more you win, the easier the hands get. Make mistakes, and you get lousy hands.

Creative Zen X-Fi 32 GB Video MP3 Player

2008_08_06

I went ahead and ordered the x-fi before reading any serious reviews because I 'needed' a player for a road trip. My last mp3 player was from Creative so I trusted the company for a high quality product. Overall I'm very pleased. First off the audio quality is great. The supplied headphones are worth keeping but the sound is even better with high quality earbuds. The X-Fi Crystalizer is nice for some music but I've found for bands like Flogging Molly or MGMT, it makes the sound too harsh to enjoy. I've been leaving it off for now as it sometimes makes the bass distorted, and plus I'm sure it uses a bit more juice. It is a nice feature to have when you can close your eyes and enjoy your favorite songs though. The wi-fi for me is a bit of gimmick, although some of the material available from creative is worth listening to. I don't use yahoo or msn chat so I haven't even set up the chat yet. You can set up your computer as a music server but as far as I can tell you can only stream, not transfer over wi-fi. I don't have an sd card so I can't say much about that, but there are options for browsing and importing files. Navigating the menus already feels natural once I got the hang of using the buttons. The screen is very nice for photos and video. I really felt I had made a good purchase while watching an episode of Top Gear while using the built in speaker (which can get quite loud). Battery life is impressive as well. I charged it fully when I got it, played music in the car for about 6 hours then watched that episode of Top Gear yesterday and as I listen to it now I have about 80% battery left. The supplied software (which you'll need to download if you have a slot loading optical drive - its a mini cd) is very easy to use. It took about an hour and a half to transfer ~20 gigs of music and about 20 mins to convert and then transfer the tv show, but I feel that depends more on your computer. To wrap this up, I'm very happy with the purchase and that I have a high quality, feature laden product without looking like an apple drone.

Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player

This is my first BluRay player. So far so good. The setup was very straightforward and I did appreciate the simple set up walk through the minute I turned it on. After setting up - I was a bit surprised (all right - fricking shocked) when sound played through my TV speakers because I specifically set it up to play through the digital audio output. Not a big deal - I can just mute the TV, but I did fear it was going to blow out the speakers.

So after the unit was set up (less than a minute with an HDMI connection and a digital audio out) I popped in my first disc. Granted, I did not test with a BluRay DVD, but the load-time was a pleasant surprise. I found it just as fast as the el-cheapo model DVD player that occupied the space before it. All the nightmares I have heard about ridiculously slow start-up times seem to have been for not. No problem with loading.

Also, I have heard horror stories of having to update firmware out of the box. Luckily, the check for a firmware update is easier than the set-up, and took less than 5 seconds to tell me I was up-to-date.

Since I don't have a BluRay DVD handy I popped in an animated feature. My family - who is usually the biggest critic of new things - all noticed a significant improvement vs. the previous analog player.

So set-up, ease of use and picture quality are all superior. Also, when using a digital coaxial I notice a much better sound than with other mid-line DVD players. Aesthetically this is a sharp looking unit. The remote seems a bit of overkill and I think it's a bit too large. Plus I'm not confident that I can use it to control my non-Sony TV. I haven't played around with all the features yet, but so far it's worth what I paid for it.
